BUCK AND A QUARTER

  • The Brooklyn Firefly 7003 3rd Avenue Brooklyn, NY 11209 (map)

The Buck and a Quarter Quartet is a New York City-based string band that specializes in performing forgotten gems and favorites from the golden age of American popular music, particularly the 1920s and 1930s. Their repertoire spans vintage pop, western swing, traditional jazz, tangos, and original compositions, all delivered in a distinctive style described as "skiffle meets Cole Porter."

Formed in 2014 by five friends passionate about reviving overlooked classics, the ensemble's lineup includes instruments such as guitars, banjo, violin, and ukulele. Despite their name, they often perform with more than four members, adding to the richness of their sound.

The Buck and a Quarter Quartet has been a fixture in the NYC music scene, holding residencies at venues like Francis Kite Club in the East Village and Barbès in Brooklyn. They have also performed at various other locations, including Jalopy Tavern, The Brooklyn Firefly, Sunny’s Bar, Skinny Dennis, and Rockwood Music Hall.

Their performances are characterized by a lively and engaging atmosphere, often described as a "party in a box," bringing joy and nostalgia to their audiences.
